Mouthwatering Indian Street Food in the Heart of Santa Monica

Another sunny Saturday in July, walking west down Santa Monica Boulevard, as I get closer to the beach and closer to TŪMBI I pick up the scent of fresh naan on the ocean breeze.  I walked in and was greeted warmly, the atmosphere was bright, trendy and full of life, the large windows were open creating an al fresco vibe while still protected from the hot SoCal sun.

TŪMBI is not your typical Indian restaurant. Award winning Chef Imran Ali Mookhi was inspired by India’s street food, the flavors, the culture, the people. The restaurant is even adorned with photographs from his travels and it doesn’t get more authentic than that. In our brief chat he shared the story behind one of those photographs and encouraged me to dig in and eat with my hands. Which of course I did.

From the Egg Bhurji, Goan Prawn Masala Tiffin and Fungi Mushroom Uttapam on the Brunch Menu to the Afghani Seekh Kabob, Avocado Bhel Puri and Apricot Curry Patagonian Toothfish Masala on the Dinner Menu, you will find yourself on a flavor journey through India, your taste buds tingling with excitement for the next bite. Every dish I tried was excellent, made better only by the service which was its equivalent.

So if you are looking for an equally tasty and trendy brunch spot this Weekend or a chic restaurant with delicious food and good wine with your pals or date night with that special someone, check out TŪMBI in Santa Monica, we promise you won’t be disappointed. And P.S.: If you don’t live in the neighborhood don’t let that stop you we can assure you it is well worth any traffic the 10 or the 405 might throw your way.
